At the age of 62, Carolyn L. Baker discovered the murder of Emmett Till, which prompted her to embark on a personal exploration of her own biases. Raised in Southern California, Baker confronted white privilege with openness and sincerity, leading to the publication of her award-winning book, An Unintentional Accomplice: A Personal Perspective on White Responsibility (2020), published by 2Leaf Press. In this interview, host Gabrielle David speaks with Baker about her journey, addressing topics such as CRT, DEI, book banning, white supremacy, and contemporary partisan politics.

“While we cannot undo the past, we can be one hundred percent responsible for the present socioeconomic disparities. The story of slavery is still our story. To be responsible is to be able to respond.”

—Carolyn L. Baker, “Use Giving Tuesday for amends and reparations,” Carolyn L. Baker Website, November 30, 2021
