EPISODE 10

Carolyn L. Baker wants White people to understand the complex interplay between race, power, and privilege

In this episode . . .

At 62 years old, Carolyn L. Baker learned about the murder of Emmett Till, which inspired her to examine her own prejudices. Growing up in Southern California, Baker approached the topic of white privilege with honesty and openness, resulting in her award-winning book, An Unintentional Accomplice: A Personal Perspective on White Responsibility (2020), published by 2Leaf Press. In this interview, host Gabrielle David talks with Baker about her journey, covering subjects like Critical Race Theory (CRT), Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), book banning, white supremacy, and current partisan politics.
“While we cannot undo the past, we can be one hundred percent responsible for the present socioeconomic disparities. The story of slavery is still our story. To be responsible is to be able to respond.”

—Carolyn L. Baker, “Use Giving Tuesday for amends and reparations,” Carolyn L. Baker Website, November 30, 2021
